I've learned from experience not to arrive at YVR particularly early. I was left cooling my heels in the miserable landside area with bags and no viable power outlets for a few hours when bag check was strictly only 3 hours in advance (admittedly this was UA not ANZ). The Fairmont bar is a great idea, wish I'd thought of that.
