Don't worry about hurricanes. You have plenty of time to see if one is heading this way, and plenty of time to get out of the way if necessary. Sarasota has not taken a direct hit by a major hurricane since they started mapping them in the late 1800's.

It will be in the low 90's and very humid in August. It won't be bad on the beach with the breeze from the Gulf. It will probably rain a little bit almost every day. Don't worry, it doesn't last long unless it's a hurricane.

Make sure you learn to do the "Stingray Shuffle".

Do make sure you get to Siesta Key. While there, have some drinks on the Daiquiri Deck and have dinner at the Siesta Key Oyster Bar.

Also take the time to walk around St. Armand's Circle on Lido Key.
