I think it would depend on two factors - can you check your bags through and get an online boarding pass from EY.

Air Canada is partner with EY but they are also very difficult to deal with, so I can’t guarantee they will accept the bags to check through given the two separate tickets. Being in the same terminal for both arrival and departure will help smooth the process, but it all comes down to checking the bags and getting a digital bp from EY.

If not, then you’ll need to enter Canada regardless and re check the bag and get the EY boarding passes.

Either way, AC is the better option because of more frequent flights to YYZ from LGA as a hedge if anything happens vs AA with limited options.
