I was asking about the disparity in routing BEFORE the eruption, whereas he was focussing on the routing DURING the eruption. Absent the eruption there must be some reason why BA adopt a longer (southerly) routing as compared with JL or NH, and have done so since the Ukraine issues.
I asked a similar question in the Ask The Staffer thread, which IINM was replied to by
Waterhorse . ISTR it is to do with JL (and presumably NH as well) carrying more fire retardant in the cargo holds. So, able to fly further from a diversionary airport.
