The ETOPS rating may or may not be the case but I doubt it. Either way it is not relevant in this case - it is purely down to the ongoing volcanic eruption in Kamchatka. ETOPS 180, which is the BA rating is more than sufficient for the LHR HND route, ETOPS 370 (which is the max rating for the A350) is more relevant to trans pacific stuff
I think TheFrankFlyer’s post was referring to my question about why JL and NH adopt more northerly routings than BA, when flying on the eastbound routing (ie before the current eruption). BA definitely take consistently longer to fly HND-LHR, and different Etops rules would seem to be a logical reason.
