martzipan, I think you misunderstood. I always have my phone. I'm just looking for the next step up. Something that is highly automated, but with a better sensor and optics so that the result is easier to edit, copes better with low light, that kind of thing.

The X100 series is legendary. Seems to have a very specific look to it, although I'm sure you can probably adjust it to your preferences with a bit of experimentation. I keep an eye out for one, but they are rarely in stock and fetch silly prices. I'm not convinced that they are automated enough either. I am slowly trying to learn, but something just hasn't clicked yet and I find a lot of this quite difficult.

I actually think that the Google camera could be a lot better and maybe mean I don't need anything else, if it allowed you to control the amount of sharpening in the JPEG, and saved the settings it used to generate that JPEG along with the RAW. I guess with the latter it's a case of them not wanting to reveal any proprietary secrets.
