Are they doing shifts or something on longer flights?
The typical service is FA1 (lead) FA3 greeting passengers. Now, depending on the lead, FA3 helps with nuts and drinks and some of the meal service, then FA3 goes in the back and helps with main cabin service. Sometimes the lead won't have anyone to help, and FA3 stays in the main cabin. When the lead does it by themselves, they are usually senior and know what needs to be done. How long was this flight? I did MSP-ANC, which was over 6 hours.
