It's painfully obvious it's the willfully ignorant ones who won't take advantage of it. It's the ones who are wealthy and happen to fly AC a lot and spend a lot but also doesn't know anything or doesn't know much about the ff program.
I don't disagree with your premise, having spent half the morning dissecting this. The new program doesn't benefit anyone relative to the old one, so the people who will still qualify for SE do gain something in the form of fewer people to compete with for upgrades and I guess the MLLs. But I'd caution against thinking you actually get a lot from that - J cabins will still be full (with non-revs instead), the MLLs could still be full (and I don't think any domestic MLL (not the cafes) is worth the time if it's not free). Points earning is going to go way down unless you are spending more than 20k flying YTO-YOW/YUL.
