Because Chase and WN and the major media all think this is a huge selling point for WN. It isn't, at least not with many of us who never check bags. It's a Chase benefit that is completely useless to me.
WN is going to lose a % of customers who valued the checked bags, and WN is going to lose another % of customers who value open seating.
I am still having trouble seeing where WN will gain customers except through massive discounting which will cut margins. As we are seeing already.
