This is a question about their policy in this situation when I booked economy but via epgrades am already confirmed in business and the next available flight has business class seats available.
Maybe you're not understanding my answer to your question.

AC do not owe you a business class seat because your upgrade was cleared. If your flight is cancelled, you're rebooked base on the ticket you purchased. It's subject to R space availability, then it goes to waitlist like the normal eupgrades process and priority. If there's R space, you will get re-upgraded to business class but don't forget you're likely not the only person getting affected, there's a whole business class cabin with business class tickets to rebook.

If it goes to a waitlist, a Business class (lowest) ticket holder will be rebooked to business class ahead of clearing your e-upgrade.

There's a whole dedicated thread here somewhere about previously cleared upgrade get cancelled because of equipment change, cancellation and delays.

If there a flight cancellation, it generally triggers rebooking automatically.

I had had my original seat taken away because of equipment swap.
E-upgrade got cleared way in advance, got swapped from an A330 to an A320, and I ended up on standby for economy class (and business class).

It was probably an edge case, I had unusually high priority on the waitlist and ended up getting 2 business class seats on a later 787-9 departure.
