I though someone posted above they put the device in the security operatives pocket and let him go and although he’d missed his flight he travelled a couple of days later.
Whilst they’ve got no powers of arrest you’d think they called the police but I don’t think they’d identified at that time the seriousness of the device.
I’m not bashing MAN it can set itself up. I was flying on a late evening flight to London heavily delayed. There were 2 BA aircraft one on a stand the other by a ground gate,
The Menzies team called to board our flight had passes that didn’t open our gate so had to call security. None of them had taken their hi vizes down so they couldn’t go out and meet the aircraft. To save time, cabin crew escorted arriving passengers in. Then went back to the plane. Menzies staff shut the door as it was cold not remembering they couldn’t open it. They called security again. One had radios to check in desks to bring hi vis vests to gate but there was no reply. Wait of 25 mins for one to go back and get in.
When boarding Captain advised nobody had come to offload backs so we were heading back to London with original luggage on. He said it wasn’t a security issue as bags had been screened but he advised that we wouldn’t be taking any MAN originating bags.
There was also the time on the last flight from London the exit from baggage reclaim was locked. Captain was on phone to operations and trying to get it sorted. After 20. Ins of waiting someone said they were going to push the fire alarm to which The Captain said don’t but he said he’d spent more time waiting to leave the hall than in the air so went ahead and pressed the fire alarm. Someone came in about 3 mins to ‘evacuate us’
Im also sure we’ve played secondary security roulette when your bag gets put to the back again just as you think it’s going to be the next one check.
I stand by my opinion based of flying through the airport many times (62) in 20 years That MAG and efficient do not go hand in hand.
