The suite was important to you, and yet you chose not to book (and pay for) one. You might want to reconsider your strategy of expecting free room upgrades to enhance your vacation. You don't indicate whether you are an elite member of any airline programs, but if you are, do you apply the same standard? Do you expect to have your trip enhanced by a free upgrade to business/first, and walk away from the airline if you don't get it?

As I've said several times, when a suite is important for a particular stay, book and pay for it.
