Current hotels from Marriott have expanded significantly over the last few years, and there are now 5 options:
- Courtyard Penang, seems to be pretty new, but I do prefer to get a proper breakfast: Courtyard by Marriott Penang, Malaysia [Master Thread]
- AC Hotel Penang, quite far out of town: AC Hotel Penang Bukit Jambul, Malaysia [Master Thread]
- Macalister Mansion, a Member of Design Hotels - very small hotel with 8 rooms: Macalister Mansion, George Town, Penang, Malaysia [Master Thread]
- The Prestige Hotel, a Member of Design Hotels - Looks to be a good hotel with 162 rooms, but no master thread, it looks like it was once part of IHG / Mr & Mrs Smith
- Lone Pine, Penang, a Tribute Portfolio Resort - This is brand new (website barely has pictures) and states it is a refurbishment of an existing hotel from 1947 (that from reviews seemed to be a bit of a 3* local resort in the past, but the new pictures look interesting) - I created a master thread here: Lone Pine, Penang, a Tribute Portfolio Resort [Master Thread] - FlyerTalk Forums
- Marriott Penang, in the centre of town - opened in early 2024, it includes ~300 residential properties and the (see below) Marriott Executive Apartments. There is a master thread here: Penang Marriott Hotel, Malaysia [Master Thread]
- Marriott Executive Apartments Penang: Newly opened in June 2024. No thread/reviews yet.
(Previously I had stayed at the now deflagged four points,
Four Points Penang, Malaysia [No longer a Marriott Brand Hotel] - FlyerTalk Forums)
Currently I have booked the lone pine as I feel that a beach, kids pool and more "resort" like hotel would be better for family - and we can just get a grab into Georgetown proper for dinner, and the
butterfly farm that is nearby seems like it could be interesting for a short trip too. Plus, adds the "Tribute" brand to my list of ones I've stayed at. Though I remember a few reviews of some of the others in Malaysia not being great.
Any thoughts are welcome?
If you aren’t tied to Marriott check out the Golden Sands. That’s where I stay if on vacation.
Ive stayed at Courtyard and the AC hotel. Neither of them are what I’d think of for vacation but if small kids and all you want is pool and close to Georgetown then go Courtyard. AC hotel is nearer to industrial area/ Bayan Lepas.
