A known issue is that property did not properly manage their room inventory and showing rooms/suites that are for sale but not actually available.

"I never get upgraded" is just so far from my experience. I have my issues with Marriott (and the occasional poor stay with lousy room assigment) but the last couple of years I've mostly been treated well on upgrades.
The exception to that is when the property gave away your upgraded room to someone else, and they have nothing better to offer. This happened to me a couple of times, and required service recovery.

I stupidly relied on NUA again only to have Lucy yank the football again. Will never happen again. Marriott has lost my loyalty.
You can say the same statement with any airline program that promises upgrade to its elites, whether through complimentary upgrade or with certificate of some kind.

Im lifetime titanium and the old way was you could get booked into upgrade well in advance. Now it’s within 72 hours so little or no chance to book into what you’d hope to get upgraded into.

Marriott loses a lot of my vacation business because I can find cheaper/better options rather than trying to book lesser room only to get disappointed in upgrade failure time after time. They should just stop offering the charade of NUA as a real benefit.

I’ve been blanked on upgrades (even as non points/revenue customer) in several Asian hotels and despite even willing to do partial nights regular vs upgrade using NUA just becomes tiring fighting for scraps. Marriott can enjoy my $149 rates while the high value nights go to other brands.

Marriott needs fire whomever came up with the false hope offer.

Don’t count on upgrade look to better options at other chains and I’m generally a Marriott loyalist. My post would get blocked if I posted what I really think of NUA process. 72 hrs in is too close.
Both SPG and MR did not provide confirmed complimentary upgrade, unless you are a frequent guest at a particular property where they pre-block you. SPG, by design, has a higher number of suites at its properties, but even then some properties play games back in the day. It's even worse now under Marriott rules.

NUA is also subject to location, number of days you are staying, and you are competing with all other elites who are also looking for upgrades.

Additionally, only Hyatt offers confirmed upgrade for Globalists with when redeeming Suite Night Upgrades.
