My attitude hasn’t changed but behaviour has. I now book with my lowly silver card in the booking, select seats etc and then call BA and have my Club number removed. Did it again this morning and once the agent confirmed it was done, I thanked them and ended the call. I then go to BA.com and add my preferred FFP. If I am unable to do so it means the Club number was not removed.
So far it works a treat and hoping it continues.
I called BA in January and asked them to change FFP for me on all my existing bookings. The agent allowed me to keep seat reservation and changed FFP. I was concerned though, since I had read about the FQTV vs FQTS mess. Anyway, up to now, I got all "tier points" where I wanted them.
Perhaps your method is better since you get a "confirmation" the BA FFP was removed ("If I am unable to do so it means the Club number was not removed"). I may probably do it "your way" if flying BA before my current BA status expires.
