Interesting Data Point: I applied for the Strata Elite (with excellent credit), but was immediately denied, based on 'too many recent inquiries on applicant's credit report'. The response indicated that Citi pulled my Experian report, so I immediately opened that up and found only 1 credit inquiry in the past year (but just a few days ago from Chase as part of a credit line change). I then called the Citi reconsideration line. The agent wanted to be helpful, but eventually came back and said that the very recent inquiry by Chase on my credit report automatically disqualifies me from consideration for any new Citi card. She further stated that this is a built-in rule in their system and that there is no way to override it. I asked how many days does an inquiry from a different institution disqualify a person from obtaining a new Citi card, and her response was that she couldn't answer that question, but that I should consider reapplying in a few weeks. I suspect that the 1 application in 8 days rule may have been recently expanded from strictly Citi accounts to also include hard inquiries from any other banking institution ... at least for the new Strata Elite card.
