Based on reading this forum, I’m pretty sure I know the advice is going to be “don’t bother” or “too risky”, but let me ask in any case: I’m lifetime FB Plat and always credit to FB; but I got a Virgin Atlantic UK credit card relatively recently, and have a couple of their vouchers in my account now, which are worth 75k miles, or 150k miles if I get VS status, even silver. So it’s worth me crediting a few flights to VS to try to double my voucher value. So the easy thing to do is just ignore FB and just credit to VS which is what I’ve already done on one J trip when I didn’t need any status benefits from being STE+. But my next booking is in AF premium. I’ve booked it whilst not logged in to either VS or AF/KL. I could get lounge access with priority pass, but the fast track would be nice and, more importantly would being able to select seats in advance for free. Also increased probability of an op-up, though I know those are rare, but I do occasionally get them, but only short haul*.
I could:
1) put in VS number first and hope that’s the stickiest, then change to FB, and then back again at the gate and hope it actually credits to VS
2) put in FB number first then change to VS at the gate
3) just put in VS for safety and forget about seat selection and fast track (though I guess waving my card at the fast track line might work if it’s manned).
1 and 2 are complicated since the routing is UK-CDG-Canada so changing to VS at the UK gate might do nasty things with my second leg seat assignment?
Any advice/data points welcome.
I remember enviously in the days of BMI, when I could enter both FQTV and FQTS in the reservation on UA, but get my BMI gold benefits
thanks.

* Though once, in the good old days of Flying Dutchman on KL, flying NorthWest to Detroit from AMS, I got a double op-up from Y to F :-)
