Both ORD and LGA were a bit of a mess yesterday but had a very nice outcome driven by the always amazing UC agents at LGA. On my way out from Midtown to catch the 2:20 and it starts going on a rolling delay, inbound plane is at ORD and is on a MX "returned to gate". I'm booked on a C fare, flight change option is to move to the 5:25 PM which is the only one with F availability. I eventually confirm that change as it is becoming more and more clear that the 2:20 is too messy. As I check into the lounge they proactively ask if I want to try to standby for the delayed 1:17 PM departure (wasn't an option in the app). I say yes, as a GS on a C fare not terribly surprised to go to #1 on the WL. She comes and finds me in the lounge 10 minutes later with a ticket for 25F on that delayed 1:17PM and says with a smile "I have a very bad seat for you on that earlier flight!" Saved me having to go down to the gate. I bite the bullet given bad weather is rolling into both Chicago and NYC and its supposed to be date night with my wife. Hope against hope that maybe someone no shows in the fully booked F and I'll get a battlefield promotion. No such luck but I did make it home ~45 minutes late and my 1K colleagues ended up 6 hours delayed despite playing musical chairs across the evening bank of flights at LGA.
It was my first trip in E- (or as my wife calls it, "deep steerage") in over 12 years (yes I looked it up on my flight memory). But I survived and I didn't even complain!
I'm the first to bag on GS and highlight how much better CK has been but yesterday GS for sure got me home in time for a dinner date with my wife which wouldn't have happened otherwise!
