It's amazing how airlines abandon you in these situations. I've had this kind of thing happen to me over seas many times and I had to search for help on my own
The SMS/iMessage agents can also send hotel vouchers, or they can book their own hotel and request reimbursement. I don’t know how expensive it would have to get before UA might start to squeak — AFAIK, there’s not really any limit baked into the UK’s policy, and if UA didn’t proactively provide a hotel or a person to interact with, I would expect them to honor anything reasonable.
