Also remember business have contracted fares with southwest. You could have a large travel group onnthis flight thst just booked.
ive seen this happen with other airlines on offering schedule change for vouchers trying to do this before the flight rather than a gate announcement.
They ask for a bid from PAX to change flights and then decide at the gate.
I'm aware of all that, but the proactive outreach via email seems to be new. I also thought Southwest didn't intentionally overbook.
