I recently had an unexpected overnight at an airport when an AA delay caused a misconnect (was rebooked on a flight the next morning). AA agent gave me a voucher for a hotel and then I spent the next 60 minutes watching shuttles for every other hotel brand go by multiple times, but none for mine. Eventually a shuttle came and all seats were taken and the driver refused to let me stand. Long story short, I got on the next shuttle with space (had scoped out rates while waiting and waiting) and paid $200 for my own room. This was at 11pm, had to leave hotel at 6am to get back to terminal
The wiki says:
“My airline is offering a voucher for a hotel, but I skipped the voucher line and booked my own hotel. Am I covered? Reports point to yes, as long as you did not actually take the airline up on their offer.”
Did I take AA up on their offer when they gave me a voucher that wasn’t usable? I have obviously no interest in committing insurance fraud.
