Reason #1 I've never considered the *A upgrade as a meaningful option. If it doesn't work, and you're past 24 hours, you're stuck with a Y or PE ticket on a carrier that doesn't do paid upgrades.
Is there a reason you don't attempt the upgrade within 24 hours? I always do that when intending to upgrade with an instrument with positive space, whether via SAUA, +P, or MUA.
