Stayed here recently for 6 nights following some failed attempts to fly on standby (long story!) and I was super impressed.

Pros:
  • The junior suite I was in was giant, perhaps the largest junior suite I’ve ever been in. It is almost the same size as the normal suite. Sorry I forgot to take pictures but the furnishing is the same as in ElevatorEnthusiast’s 1 bedroom suite and I notice this hotel has actually very decent pictures showing in the app.
  • The suite was perfectly clean and housekeeping did a great job even with the little touches like folding my clothes more neatly.
  • The lounge offering is great! Definitely enough for a dinner and the staff were super attentive, bringing my usual drink without asking.
  • The WiFi was fast and reliable, not requiring any annoying logins after the first time.
  • The aircon was very effective.
  • I really enjoyed the breakfast (served in the restaurant) which had a very wide selection and good quality. Great fresh orange juice, masala/karak chai, poached eggs and dosa. Although the coffee wasn’t great the one time I tried it and the shakshuka was scrambled eggs with bell peppers which I didn’t think was good.
  • The breakfast and lounge staff were great! I’m not sure I have ever been somewhere where the waitstaff were just so ‘on it’. Dishes cleared, orders taken immediately (including egg orders at the table) and always offered a top up on drinks. I only gave my room number on the first day and from then on I was remembered despite there being plenty of guests.

Cons:
  • I arrived early, around 09:30am after booking only minutes before. The receptionist was very friendly and told me I could get the superior king room I’d booked immediately but unfortunately could not give any upgrade (as Marriott Titanium) at that time. As I would be at the hotel for 6 nights and primarily in the room, I said I would prefer to wait if it would mean a better room and that I would go out for a while. I asked if they would take my phone number so I could be told when a better room would be available but was told no and to come back at standard checkin time of 3pm. It was of course my choice to wait for the better room, but wish they could have messaged me. When I did return at 3:30pm I was given a junior suite. 1 Bedroom suites were available, so I’m guessing junior suites is what they give for titanium, which is perhaps a little less generous for UAE standards.
  • I chose the food and beverage item for welcome amenity instead of points. The options I believe were cheese, cheesecake or something which I think was labelled ‘JW Steakhouse’ which the receptionists did not know what it is. I decided to risk the steakhouse item as I eat most things and was a little disappointed to receive the cheesecake.

Overall it was a great stay where they just got almost everything right and with a memorably great lounge and breakfast service. There are a lot of good options in Abu Dhabi and Dubai so my choice of hotel would be according to occasion / plans and time of year, but this ranks pretty high for my general likes and needs.
