Looking at EF, it would seem that the fares have following restrictions
'I' (Sale) - Changes $600 - non refundable but fare can be used towards another ticket ( subject to $600 fee ) : No Show will forfeit value
'D' (Saver) - Changes permitted at no charge - non refundable but fare can be used towards another ticket : No Show will forfeit value
'C' and 'J' (Flex) - fully refundable but a oo show fee of $800 would apply
If you want refundable, you need a flex fare - if happy for credit a saver fare will do - If not likely to make changes and o with a $600 change fee, then sale will do
AA codeshares on the QF flights but has the same fares - The AA 'I' fare allows for free changes Unfortunately it seems ( from EF ) that AA does not codeshare on the HNL-MEL flight only HNL-SYD and vice versa
