There will be no herd thinning. Its likely we'll see a lot of people getting unexpected status extensions (as has happened anyway in recent years) to keep the number of elites steady. In particular I suspect a lot of Golds will be extended because BA will have done the maths and noticed that there will be too many Silver members if a lot of Golds are downgraded.
