I couldn't select seats online. Couldn't select seats on the phone. Couldn't check-in online. Couldn't check-in at a kiosk at the airport. My only option was to show up at 3:15 AM at the airport to talk to a rep and check-in and I believe that ANA is using SATS at SIN for their staff.
By chance, on your NRT-EWR flight, did you get the SSSS? ANA's OLCI system has a 50-50 chance of failing if you booked it as a codeshare. Some, though, reported being able to secure seats even when OLCI failed. Some said putting the eticket number instead of the 6 digit code worked.

I tbh am not too worried. The last few times I didn't pick a seat at check-in, whether because it failed or not:
KE, 2019: got a window at the front of the plane
AK, 2024: got a middle
QZ, 2024: got a middle but check-in agent managed to override it and assign me a window
QG, 2024: got a window at the back of the plane
JL, 2023: snagged a window seat at the front of the plane
TR, 2023 and 2024: Got assigned windows for free; one was at the back, the other the 3rd row
My family both took JX and AS and by checking in at the airport at T-3hrs, they got windows as well.

ADDING: Did you properly register all info on ANA's end? When I booked via UA, they failed to transfer my passport number, address, and email to ANA. Called ANA and they verified everything, and said I'm good to go.

ADDING 2: ANA's check-in system can be funny. On their website, my flight is listed under NH. On ANA's app, though, it's under UA.
