I would certainly have preferred the Star Alliance as I have Star Gold through UA, but I needed a one-way ticket in July, and an award ticket through Flying Blue on KLM was by far my most cost-effective option.

I do think I will get another Flying Blue credit card through Bank of America (Americans are lucky to have access to these deals) since I could use to replenish my Flying Blue account and it gives me the silver elite status which avoids the seat assignment drama.
