Just completed a very brief 1 night stay here booked on the same day. Unfortunately I was really underwhelmed and found the stay was well below expectations with a few issues.

Pros:
  • Room: I did like the style of the room probably even more than the Park Hyatt which feels a bit old fashioned to me. (I do prefer Andaz to either though).
  • Club Lounge: The evening club offering is indeed great and definitely one of the best I've seen anywhere. Very definitely the best I have seen in any Hyatt globally.
Neutral:
  • Breakfast: Apart from the service issue below, the breakfast offering was OK. I was surprised reading Elevator Enthusiast's comment that Park Hyatt was best for Breakfast as I found it to be good there but not really particularly great. He was right though! I enjoyed the Park Hyatt and Andaz breakfasts more.
Cons:
  • Upgrades: As a globalist, I was upgraded just one category from King Sea View to King Deluxe. The receptionist apologised that no suites were available but something was a bit off... availability did show in the app both for Grand suites and even King Premium rooms. I was willing to give some benefit of the doubt, but when I did mention on checkout the response was unconvincing 'there was a problem with the suite' (there were multiple for sale) and 'we didn't put you in the premium room as there was no balcony' (not a super useful feature in Abu Dhabi in late July). Definitely if they had such a range of issues they could have been more transparent and communicated better, as I'm left now not really trusting them which isn't a problem I have experienced before as a Globalist.
  • Aircon: Unfortunately the air con was badly underpowered. In my 24 hours there with the air con on full, the temperature moved from 25.5 celsius (78 Fahrenheit) to 23.4 (74 Fahrenheit).
  • Wifi: Although the wifi showed ok signal and speeds on speedtest, it definitely had some issues which I confirmed across multiple devices/apps and made Teams calls frustratingly impossible. Even in the lobby an attempted Teams call suffered with issues.
  • Service: Both the club lounge and the breakfast restaurant seemed well staffed but I really struggled to get their attention in either. This was particularly frustrating when the only thing I did ask for (chai) was forgotten about at breakfast. It was also necessary to get the staff for drinks in the lounge. It is definitely not (and indeed far from) proactive attentive service. The scrum around the egg station and not being able to get to the paper to select something meant I gave up and didn't have eggs.

Usually I wouldn't write-off a hotel based on one bad experience and on such a brief stay, but there was just too much wrong here that I can't see myself trying with them again. Especially when I like Andaz, the Park Hyatt and Marriott Downtown Abu Dhabi, none of which had the issues above.
