I don't care about the metal card (they are a PITA at the airport) but I do care about cheapo plastic cards that fall apart before expiration. I had to replace my CFU card due to wear, and now my Amex Blue+ is shredding. Of course this only really affects the handful of cards that I use for everyday spend and dining, but still a major annoyance as you have to update the exp date and sometimes CVN with any online accounts that autocharge to the card.
I think that's the only good argument I've seen for having the mental card. Otherwise, I think the "status" they are trying convey for people is worthless. Maybe it stood out when it first came out as not many cards did it but now there are many that do.
