Makes sense to harmonize all international long-haul routes on the same aircraft type. SEA-ICN and SEA-FCO are already scheduled to fly on 787-9 aircraft.
AS said from the beginning that this harmonization was the plan and that the A330 was a placeholder because they could get it on the route immediately even though they knew it was suboptimal. It would have been a surprise if Alaska Air Group didn't switch this to a 789, but nice to have the date in the schedule now.
