In terms of getting receipts for and checking your spend on Transport for London services, you can do this from the day after travel (TfL consolidates your journeys and works out how much you owe early the following morning). Actually you don't
need to create an account with TfL just to be able to see contactless transactions, if you just want to check once or twice during a trip it may be easier to go to
https://contactless.tfl.gov.uk/ and further down on this page there is a link to access
7 day contactless journey and payment history without an account

If you plan to do this more than a couple of times it might be easier to get an account.
And you need to be in the UK or have a UK IP address to access the TfL website.
