At risk of cross-posting, using the new credit was easy peasy for me. I simply set up my card as the default card for Lyft, and the credit was automatically applied when I ordered the ride. Leftover partial credit was applied to the next ride. I'm not a fan of coupon book credits but this one was no hassle. Alas I don't use Lyft every month and no option to apply to food....
