as a long time traveler I know what should be done to tag my bags to the point that tags are placed in a particular handle so to have then best chance of survival. But that is not the case for most.
It sounds like you have all the necessary experience and skills to handle this simple task easily, but you chose to make it as difficult and time consuming as possible for both yourself and the agents (oh sorry, "unassistants", as you call them) to make a point, I guess.
I was travelling 2 weeks ago with my 5 year old niece, and she handled the entire process of scanning BPs, printing and applying all our bag tags by herself without difficulty. (I lifted the heaviest bag onto the belt for her)
