There is precisely one airport in all of the AA system where I would chance a sub 40 minute connection - PHX. Where the weather is benevolent 90% of the time. Wouldn't dream of a 40 minute connection at DFW or ORD or CLT. Maybe DCA because the terminal is relatively small by comparison.
