They usually let you go if you show a BP for travel in C/J/F. Alternatively jank the tag after they put it on when boarding begins and just walk onto the plane. That seems the path of least resistance and works across various airlines.
Nope, they didn’t give a f…. Everyone at the gate with anything bigger than a purse got separated from the carry-on. No matter class of service or status. Only way to dodge, was not to be in the gate area
And ripping of the tag wasn’t an option either, since as I said… they checked into the hold. So take away your bag, tag it and hand it to the baggage handler to load it.
