Hotel Indigo Dundee (UK)
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Not really
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Queen Std > 1 King Bed Suite (according to IHG app/website)
How are the rooms?
it wasn't a suite. To be fair, the check-in agent called it a Junior Suite, as do signs in the corridors.
Floor area is only 24m² according to IHG (though it says standard rooms are 24m² too
).
Slightly more space between the bed and the desk, unlike base rooms in many UK/European Indigos.
One window was broken and could not be shut, which made the room cold (note: this stay occurred in winter).
Heating controls were unresponsive.
Free minibar with irnbru, tunnocks, crisps and water in a tetra-pak.
Peculiar bathroom layout: much wasted empty space.
Toilet positioned bizarrely, obstructs access to wall-mounted mirror.
Short arm of shaving mirror not extendable, rendering it useless.
Rain shower is very high up. Owing to the location of taps, unavoidable jet blast of cold water when turning on, even from outside the cubicle.
Strangely, no lighting above bathtub.
How is the exec. lounge?
None
What was good and what was bad?
- Nothing specific.
- Price-wise was a good deal but that is mainly thanks to Amex.
- Rate cancellable until 6pm on day of check-in, rare in UK.
- Breakfast starts at 0630 daily.
- Breakfast was downgraded to the HIX-style buffet in the adjacent Staybridge Suites, rather than the
usual UK Indigo quality continental buffet + a la carte main. Not sure why - perhaps low occupancy? Not warned in advance. Did have fried eggs instead of powdered.
- Location not the best for public transport. Train station on opposite side of city. Not near any convenient bus routes and stops difficult to access on foot.
- Despite receiving highest category room in the hotel, it had various problems as described above.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I used an IHG Amex offer, so the total I eventually paid was £104.20 including dinner, drinks and 5000 bonus EQ points. Additionally received ~£10 from a cashback portal.
Diamond benefits were so-called suite and breakfast. However, everyone staying at the adjacent Staybridge already gets a suite and breakfast.
On many dates the Staybridge is consistently ~£3 more expensive than the Indigo, which makes the benefits worth £3.
Indigo charges £12 extra for a breakfast-inclusive rate. Were I not diamond, I would have felt cheated to receive the Staybridge breakfast for £12.
Main reason for choosing this hotel was to try a property new to me, and avoid paying 2.5 times as much in Edinburgh.
Unless I need to stay in Dundee, I would hesitate to book this hotel again.
