The weather in Hong Kong is quite bad now. It is 12:32pm local time and I will definitely not want to fly under this kind of condition.
My cousin is actually going to fly on CX 293 from HKG to FCO Sunday night but CX puts her on a flight to an alternative European destination last night. She is on her way to Europe now and almost ready to land actually. These days airlines are quite flexible when they know weather is on the way. She is stuck in a middle seat but at least will be able to arrive Europe before an important event/meeting.
It seems like that you are flying business and I have a feeling that Cathay will rebook you on an alternative flight especially CX 293 is cancelled. Of course this is the summer season but if you are on a paid ticket, you should be okay.
I have a feeling that the airport will be quite a mess tonight. CX and many airlines are delaying all the arrivals to post 3pm, once the typhoon passed Hong Kong. The worst will be now till 2pm.
There are at least two sets of crews that usually overnight in Singapore, so there will be flights managed to get out this afternoon. But transit in Hong Kong will definitely be messy and flights will certainly be delayed, but I actually think you will be able to make it to Rome on Monday.
Cargo jet has a bit more tolerant of taking off and landing in rough weather, and while most passenger jets can handle taking off at typhoon number 10, ground operation is often tough and passengers might not like it too much. So most passenger airlines will avoid it.
For those flying in and out of Hong Kong for the next 48 hours, please be patient! Just be thankful that all these staffs are willing to go through the hassles to come to work. Yes MTR is working but most people still need to get to that MTR station through walking (most likely). Not fun to do it under a typhoon and tropical rain storm. Be kind and be patient!
