I agree and do everything I can to avoid close connections. But for me, one of the downsides of flying out of a small market is the limited number of flights. We have 3x DFW & 2x ORD, so if I am connecting to another smallish market I don't always have a choice. Sometimes I end up with 45 minute layovers and others 5 hours. I prefer the 5 hours over the 45 minutes.
You'd have more experience than me with this, but IMO I'd be more willing to tolerate Eagle-Eagle tight connections vs mainline-mainline or mainline-Eagle. The Eagle operators feel more reliable than AA these days, quick deplaning, and often clustered gates.
