Slot delays are massively fluid situations, it is not a simple matter to just say “there’s a three hour delay, so you can go to the lounge or offload yourself” that time changes constantly as BA try to route you round the issue if possible or change level - all of which involves the pilots who may or may not be able to fly the new route for all sorts of technical issues. More importantly once we have everyone onboard, doors close and the plane is ready to push we can take a slot that someone else has missed and most times, large delays turn into minor ones. If someone wants to get off that is a massive issue - it’s not just a case of removing their bags, but there are security ramifications as load and balance issues - a simple one pax offload can delay the flight by 40 mins or so. Flying IS a t the mercy of the weather far more so than a bus or a car, those that cannot wrap their heads around such a concept must struggle in their daily lives. None of this is new or a sudden change - it’s been this way for a long time, as more people fly and the skies get more congested, it’s not going to improve.
