The lesson DL wants you to take away is to buy the flight you want, even if you have to pay more upfront for it. DL already made that more clear with previous SDC changes when the fare bucket requirements were added for Main Cabin.
I have done that. I earned EXP last year. And will do so again by September. I have had 2 Delta tickets (14 on others) since the beginning of the year. I only have one ticket booked on DL over the next 3 months vs 11 on other airlines. All flights booked in first/D1. Not even a drop in the bucket to DL. But as the number of customer hostile changes (especially the onces done steathily) continues to rise, it makes me want to avoid giving them any revenue whenever I can find an acceptable substitute.
