I suspect RM is doing this because a lot of people will book those terrible early am flights as they are cheaper and then switching to later flights. There is also quite an advantage to doing this because if you are booked at say, 6am on Tuesday, you can SDC up until 1159pm on Tuesday but you can call as early as 6am on Monday. Essentially way ahead of anyone else and up to 36 hours ahead. Not anymore!
I thought you couldn't SDC until 24 hours of the flight the wanted to SDC to, so even if you have a Tuesday AM flight but wanted to SDC to the Tuesday PM flight, you had to wait until Monday PM to do it. Conversely you also couldn't SDC until within 24 hours of your original flight so if you had the Tuesday PM flight and wanted to SDC to a Tuesday AM flight, you had to wait until Monday PM to do it. Pretty sure that's how it worked for me.
That said, agree that this change is a big thumbs down.
