I presume, EC261 kicks in as duty of care only as the delay is mostly purely operational due to congestion at ZRH and AMS. Unless of course the aircraft goes tech or some industrial action takes place, in which cases I would expect some compensation.

Completely agree that the bags are my biggest problem, if I'd fly HBO, there would be no problem, even with a re-route. The bags would most probably be filled with presents for my family in the Philippines, so even they won't make the connection they should be delivered 2-3 days later.

On the positive side: The flight time is usually much faster than the published block time. However I agree that the KL807 connection is very tight. As said by previous poster, the question is how urgent you need to arrive on the next day there and how flexible you are. There are more Asian departures later in the evening opening up opportunities to still arrive the next day although later of course and with a connection f.e. in SIN or KUL. KL would also be obliged to book you on the later EK flight (in case f.e. the KL SIN and KUL flights cannot be reached), however they will not do this voluntarily. - although EC261 requires them to offer you the next available connection to get you to your destination.

If you really have to be there on time, it is worth considering the extra money for a safe connection.
There's no real urgency to be in MNL on time, but of course loosing a day of vacation is always not very nice.

Thanks for all the inputs. I guess, I'll explore the unknown. But as I said, I will be checking in early and politely ask to be put on the earlier KL1922 if there is space available and the checkin agent willing to bend the rules.
