Now it does have a FTF so not good for international spend but if most of your spend is domestic it is not a bad play. I also hold the DC and Premier so the Elite is not exciting me even with AA transfers. Now I know some folks value simplicity so maybe this is what Citi is aiming for in the target market.
I suspect one of the reasons why AA hasn't allowed transfers from TYP is because of all those Citi no-fee cards that can generate TYPs. The ability to combine TYPs from all cards (including no-fee CC, DC, etc.) could become a casualty once transfers to AA commence. AA miles are harder to generate than almost any other mileage currency through spending, so for some people, 1.5x AA miles via general spend may be attractive.
