I had a similar issue recently with a Virgin flight booked using a Delta ticket. The Virgin app wanted to charge for seat selection, but when I used the Delta app to do it, it was free.

Another frustration was that the front row seats in PE were blocked out right up through online check in and even around 3 hours before departure, but were all magically occupied when the flight was loaded. Why do they block these?
