Hi
jsguyrus -
My point is - I have always found international J award seats by looking where they aren't selling them. It has always been that way. It always will be that way. I gave you my system for finding seats - it works for me.
Is it more of a hassle than it used to be? Yes. Is it more expensive than it used to be? Yes. Is the value proposition not as good? Yes. Is it still worth it to me to work a little to find seats so I have a comfortable ride? Yes.
If the answer to the last question for you is "No", then don't chase points/status. It then comes down to WJBJ. I just don't feel like paying $4K+ when with a little effort, I can get it for around 85% less than that.
And I have only taken Amtrak to Seattle to catch my international flight.
