Outside of some real corner case I am never going to buy an airline ticket through the portal so I don't care about that earn. I have spent more time than I should on the Citi portal trying to use my 4th night free and even with that it often makes no sense to book hotels through the portal vs directly or other sites. I have had more success with the C1 portal having pricing similar to booking hotels direct than Citi. The restaurant bonus earn only during certain hours is kind of out doing Amex at its own game. The four AA passes are nice but don't outweigh the negative changes elsewhere. It looks like the C1 VX card which I already hold will be my primary lounge access card going forward. I also hold the Schwab Platinum but I am expecting Amex to push the coupon booking on that one with the upcoming rumored refresh to the point I'll drop it as well (even with the Schwab relationship discount).
Based on your experience, it sounds like the Citi portal is a pain to use. That would make maximizing the rumored $300 travel credit difficult. Maybe I will bite if the initial SUB is juicy enough. Then, will probably PC to CC. BTW, are AC passes currently transferable?
