Now YVR-YYJ has been cancelled. And you are worried if you ask then to just keep TUN-CDG they will reprice again and ask to pay the difference?

Technically your route is not subject to EC261/04 protections, but under that you have a right to not take just the cancelled flight and get a partial refund. You can try and invoke Article 8. Otherwise you can argue your rights under Canadian law, but that's not so clear.
You see YVRCockroach from this post things are still not clear. If you had a ticket TUN_CDG-YVR-YYJ of which TUN-CDG was re-scheduled that makes the original trip impossible I think you are free to reschedule the whole trip without penalty, so I do not understand this text on calling for a new price.. Apparently you have now a ticket TUN-YVR-YYJ of which YVR-YYJ is cancellend (and for which they probably must offer you an alternative). If by now you just want to go to YVR, why not simply skiplag? You ask for a rebooking YVR-YYJ say the next day and just do not show up. Problem solved. Or, alternatively, you simply say fine to stop in YVR (can't see why they will reprice since we face here a cancellation of the add on leg)
