In 2018, I took TPE-x/HKG-CAN, booked on CX and KA in Y. The TPE-HKG CX flight before mine suffered a bird strike, and CX needed to move pax around, so I was offered a choice to take TPE-HKG in J on CI as I could still make my connection to the KA HKG-CAN flight, and of course I did. The CX check-in agent made sure to print my KA boarding pass before escorting me to the CI desk to get my CI boarding pass printed. Obviously, it was a special case, but this shows technically it is possible for check-in agent to print the boarding pass on a flight from originating from a different airport, even if I am not (or no longer) connecting to that flight from the same airline group. CX/KA, CI, and JL all use Amadeus Altéa.
