Poster on DOC claims to be a Citi employee who has seen the training materials and claims the new card will be:
”I work for Citi and the training videos have been sent regarding the new card AF confirmed $595. Multiplier as follows 12x on hotels, car rentals and attractions booked on Citi travel 6X on air travel booked on Citi travel. 6X on restaurants on CITI NIGHTS EVERY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY 6 pm to 6 am ET. 3x points at restaurants any other time frame. And 1.5X on all other purchases”
If so, and my Prestige is converted, this basically kills the value of the card for me.
Same if my legacy Prestige gets converted, the gutting of earnings outside the Citi portal along with the dropping of Priority Pass restaurants kills the card for me. I hold the Citi Premier so I get 10x on the Citi portal for hotels, rental cars and experiences. Outside of some real corner case I am never going to buy an airline ticket through the portal so I don't care about that earn. I have spent more time than I should on the Citi portal trying to use my 4th night free and even with that it often makes no sense to book hotels through the portal vs directly or other sites. I have had more success with the C1 portal having pricing similar to booking hotels direct than Citi. The restaurant bonus earn only during certain hours is kind of out doing Amex at its own game. The four AA passes are nice but don't outweigh the negative changes elsewhere. It looks like the C1 VX card which I already hold will be my primary lounge access card going forward. I also hold the Schwab Platinum but I am expecting Amex to push the coupon booking on that one with the upcoming rumored refresh to the point I'll drop it as well (even with the Schwab relationship discount).
