  • I was booked on British Airways flight BA0305 from Paris CDG to London Heathrow, scheduled for 7 July 2025 at 07:55 AM.
  • On the evening of 6 July, I received a message from BA stating the flight was cancelled due to adverse weather.
  • I contacted BA and was told to make my own arrangements to return to London, which I did — purchasing last-minute Eurostar tickets and incurring meal expenses along the way.
  • I am now requesting a refund for these expenses, as well as EC261 compensation for two passengers.
  • BA has refused both. Their reasoning: they claim that because they offered an alternative flight within a 24-hour window, no compensation or reimbursement is due.
  • However, this was completely unworkable in my case, as I had multiple professional obligations in London on Monday morning. Reaching my destination within 24 hours did not meet the purpose of the original booking.
  • From what I can gather, this was a knock-on operational issue (the inbound aircraft never made it to CDG the night before), not a case of severe weather at the time of my scheduled departure. In fact, the Air France flight from CDG to LHR departed as scheduled that morning.
Is BA right to deny both the refund and the compensation under EC261? Or do I have a case here based on the lack of timely re-routing and the non-applicability of “extraordinary circumstances” at the time of departure?

Thanks in advance for your help!
hi gsbazzo

i think the comments on the delay and cancellation thread by Pilot37 are all that can be said really. it is clear there was significant weather which impacted the flight coming to CDG. it is often the case that some flights are cancelled, but some are not. that doesn't mean the weather disruption wasn't a valid reason for a reduction in flights. ba won't change their position, so if you do want to take it further see the reference posts at the start of the thread which give information on using CEDR/MCOL. i am afraid i do not think the changes of success are high tho.
